Steps to perform Umrah

General Body Cleaning (GHUSL)

Proclaim the NIYYA'T for UMRAH

PUT ON IHRAM AT/BEFORE MIQAT

PRAY TWO RAK'AT NAFL

RECITE TALBIYA FREQUENTLY

GO TO MASJID AL-HARAM

MAKE TAWAF-E-KA'BAH (7 ROUNDS)

PRAY TWO RAK'AT NEAR MAQAM-I-IBRAHIM

DRINK ZAMZAM WATER

SA'IY (SEVEN ROUNDS BETWEEN SAFA & MARWA)

HAIR CUT

Ihram

Before entering the Holy Mosque (Masjid al-Haram), pilgrims must don the special white garments (Ihram) and make the intention (niyyah) to perform Umrah. This marks the start of the pilgrimage.

Tawaf

(Circumambulation of the Ka'bah):

Once inside the Masjid al-Haram, the pilgrim walks seven times around the Ka'Bah in a counterclockwise direction. This is called Tawaf al-Qudum (the arrival Tawaf) and is a symbol of the unity of believers in the worship of the One God.

Sa'i

(Walking between Safa and Marwah):

After Tawaf, pilgrims perform Sa'I, which involves walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, which are located within the Masjid al-Haram. This commemorates the search of Hagar for water for her son, Prophet Isma'il.

Tahallul

(Shaving/Cutting hair)

After completing Sa'i, men are required to shave their heads (or trim their hair), and women are required to cut a small portion of their hair. This signifies the completion of the ritual and a state of spiritual purification.

Tawaf al-Ifadah

(optional for some but common):

Some people perform an additional Tawaf, called Tawaf al-Ifadah, which is often done after the Sa'i or after any other rituals, particularly during Hajj.

Completion

After performing these key steps, the pilgrim can now leave the state of Ihram and resume normal activities, with the act of Umrah having been completed.
